Mr. Dane Searles is an Associate at Kelly | Dorsey, P.C. assisting with the firm’s tax practice. He provides representation in civil and criminal tax matters before the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) and various state taxing authorities, primarily in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. He works diligently to resolve collection matters, audits, government investigations, and complex compliance concerns.
Prior to joining Kelly | Dorsey, P.C., Mr. Searles earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, graduating cum laude and with a concentration in Business Law. While there, he worked as a student-attorney in the UB Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, advocating for Maryland residents in tax controversy disputes with the Maryland Comptroller and IRS. Under the mentorship of attorneys who previously worked for the Department of Justice and Maryland Comptroller he served as a case lead in administrative disputes, as well as Tax Court and U.S. District Court litigation. Simultaneously, he worked as a law clerk at various boutique firms in the Baltimore area, providing support to their litigation practices on a broad range of issues including tax law, family law, and state constitutional challenges. Prior to pursuing a legal career, he earned B.A.s in Economics and Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
Mr. Searles is passionate about his work in tax law and is currently pursuing an LL.M. Degree in Taxation, with a certificate in International Tax, at Georgetown University Law Center. He also volunteers with the CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) Campaign of Maryland, providing tax preparation services for low-to-moderate income individuals and families in Maryland.
